Fearless by Rachel Van Dyken
A continuation of the story we all fell in love with in Ruin, Fearless gives us the chance to see the romance between Wes and Keirsten to fruition. Ruin was one of my favourite books of last year and the love between these two was as beautiful as it was strong – I’m just glad in this novella we get to see that they get their happy ever after.
Wes continues to impart his words of wisdom as a prelude to each chapter and in this case we get a few pearls of wisdom from Keirsten also – I like this touch they are great little anicdotes and lovely to read.
"...You stopped my heart the day I met you - restarted it- and gave it a new rhythm. You are my heart..."
The story centres around the fact that Wes, no wanting to be apart from Keirsten for one more day has taken it upon himself to arrange and impromptu wedding – I get that bit honestly I do and far be it for me to criticise the marvellous Ms Van Dyken but I wasn’t sure about the fact it was at the hospital. Just a tiny bit odd to me!
Everyone is in on the event and family and friends surround them as they become man and wife. I loved the description of each member of staff passing Keirsten a rose as she walks down the corridor of the hospital towards Wes.
And Wes’s vows – OMG get the tissues ready because that man has a way with words that would but Shakespeare to shame!!!
“We don’t know what’s going to happen, but I can make a promise to you right now. Your hand’s going to be in mine the entire time. Kiersten, I swear to never let you go. Through sickness, through health, through happy times, through sad times. I’m yours.”
In all the story is just swoon worthy, Wes is a glass half full type of guy, aware that every day is a gift and to be treasured – Keirsten is almost a glass half full girl – she just has a little way to go to get over the hump that she came so close to losing the absolute love of her life and to that effect she sometimes find it difficult to the events surrounding Wes.
This novella, shows us that love wins, every time, you just have to want it enough.
We get to hear more from Gabe – I love Gabe he is so funny and after the events in Toxic, he is a changed man but Wes is like a brother to him and like family the fun never stops.
We also get a sneak peek into the turmoil that is Lisa’s life and with that to follow in the next book Shame, I think Rachel could have an absolute corker in the pipeline- all I ask is that we are kept up to date with married life for both Wes and Keirsten and Gabe and Saylor – I’m not ready to let any of them go just yet.
